‘Stoptober’…October is the month to stop smoking…

As Mark Twain once said ‘Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world, I know because I’ve done it thousands of times.’

Thousands of people have pledged to stop smoking during the month of October with the National Health Service campaign ‘Stoptober’. It’s a great idea and hopefully many of those people will stop smoking, but I wonder how many will actually stop smoking for good.

Most smokers consciously know all the reasons they would be better off if they stopped smoking. They know that they would be healthier, fitter, have more energy, more money in their pockets, smell better and feel better about themselves, mentally and emotionally. However, there is another part of their mind which ignores all these benefits and tells them that they ‘need’ to smoke. Perhaps they believe that smoking makes them feel happier, more relaxed, or more energised, but the fact is, smoking cannot do any of those things, these beliefs are purely ‘all in the mind’…the very powerful subconscious mind.

Unless these beliefs are changed, the battle between the conscious and subconscious parts of the mind will continue, and in most cases, the subconscious part will win! The quickest and easiest way to achieve a truce between these two parts and have them work together is by using hypnotherapy, NLP and EFT.
