Fear is a normal human emotional reaction which occurs whenever we sense an actual danger signal or are confronted with something unknown which we perceive to be dangerous. A degree of fear is natural and can keep us safe from harm.

Anxiety is similar to fear but usually occurs as a result of anticipation of what might happen in the future rather than a real threat, for instance performance anxiety, or anxiety about a forthcoming exam or making a speech. More extreme cases of anxiety can develop into anxiety disorders or panic attacks.

A Phobia is a fear or anxiety which is so intense that it can adversely affect a person's life as they seek to avoid any situation where they might be confronted with the feared object or situation and make unrealistic interpretations about the potential danger. In cases of severe anxiety and phobias, the response to the stimulus is automatic and happens at a subconscious level so cannot be consciously controlled.

Most phobias are 'learnt' behaviours, usually either 'passed on' from parents or significant adults in our lives (sometimes subconsciously), or are the result of a distressing experience which has created an 'anchor' or 'trigger' to the stimulus. The good news is that what has been learnt, can be unlearnt!

For most phobias, the automatic reaction which occurs when confronted with the feared object or situation can usually be changed in only one or two sessions using the very powerful EFT techniques, the NLP 'Fast Phobia Cure' and Hypnotherapy.

Some of the more commonly experienced phobias which can be rapidly resolved using EFT, Hypnotherapy and NLP include fear of confined spaces (claustrophobia), fear of leaving the home (agoraphobia), fear of spiders (arachnophobia), fear of flying (aviophobia or aviatophobia), fear of heights (acrophobia), fear of sick or being sick (emetophobia or emetephobia), fear of injections (trypanophobia) and fear of heights (Acrophobia, Altophobia, Batophobia, Hypsiphobia or Hyposophobia), and there are many, many more (see list below).
