The power of positive thinking…

I imagine many of you reading this are aware of having an inner chatterbox, a voice inside your head that’s constantly chattering away to you. I wonder how many of you would say that inner voice is always positive, nurturing, affirming, and how many would say that your inner voice is often negative, critical, pessimistic…

We apparently have somewhere between 50,000 and 80,000 thoughts a day, and for the majority of people around 75% of those thoughts are negative. So based on an average of 65,000 thoughts a day, 75% would be approximately 50,000 negative thoughts a day… 50,000 negative thoughts…think about that!

Our thoughts create our feelings, and our feelings create our actions and reactions. Knowing that, I wonder how many of you would like to learn how to change your thoughts and begin to think more positively…

Like many people, I was not taught how to think positively when I was growing up. I learned to compare myself to others, to criticise myself, to worry about what might go wrong and this did not help my self esteem, confidence, or happiness quota.

In order to change my way of thinking, I had to learn how to let go of negative thinking patterns, think positively, and feel more optimistic. I learned how to learn create happiness from within and take control of my life, and now I love to teach people about the power of positive thinking.

No-one was born feeling negative, but as we get a little older, we begin to develop certain beliefs about ourselves, other people, and the world around us. We may have had a critical or over-protective parent or carer, and learned that we were ‘not good enough’ or that the world is a scary place. Some of us may have had an angry parent which led us to feel fearful, sad, or angry ourselves. We may have experienced being humiliated, ridiculed, or had our confidence and self-belief knocked out of us by teachers at school.

If we were brought up with religious teachings, we may have been damaged by being taught that we were sinful, and taught to feel guilt and shame. All of these childhood messages and more are absorbed into our subconscious minds and unless they are questioned and addressed at some stage, we carry them throughout our lives, affecting our way of thinking, feeling, and being.

How we see and believe ourselves to be, influences how others view and act towards us, and this reinforces our beliefs throughout life. The thoughts and feelings we develop can lead us to create self-fulfilling prophecies, but it is possible to to challenge and change your beliefs, take control of your conscious thoughts and re-programme your subconscious mind.

In order to feel truly happy we need to let go of any negative childhood messages and limiting beliefs and set ourselves free to begin to think more positively and create the lives we want to live…
